Thomas Boyd Mills

In Memory Of Thomas Boyd Mills

Thomas Boyd Mills died August 11, 2018, in Wilburton, Oklahoma at the age of 87 years, 6 months and 4 days.  The eldest child of Howard & Stella (Cameron) Mills, Boyd was born in Lequire, Oklahoma on February 7, 1931.  He attended the rural school of Highbridge for his elementary years and attended Wilburton High School.  Boyd married Clarice June Dobbs on July 20, 1952 in  Wilburton, Oklahoma.  They were married for 66 years.  Boyd was a hard-working man and during his life worked in a variety of jobs including working at garages and gas stations; driving trucks; hauling hay; hauling gravel and shale; and in construction jobs involving carpentry, wiring, plumbing, roofing, and laying bricks.  He also made extra money to support his family by collecting and selling scrap iron, copper, and other metals.

When he wasn't working, Boyd enjoyed fishing, collecting coins and stamps, treasure hunting and searching for Indian arrowheads.  He was also an exceptional domino, pitch and horseshoe player.  He loved country music and watching boxing on TV.  He also enjoyed his pets, Mr. Louie, his bird and Tom, his cat.

Boyd had a great sense of humor and always enjoyed clowning around with his children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.  He loved visits from people and talking with his brothers and sisters.

One thing most people will remember about Boyd is his storytelling.  He loved to tell anyone who would listen about things he had done in his life.  His stories were often told with some embellishment which we all accepted, especially when he told them with a sly grin on his face and a glint in his eye.
