Delmer Lee Allen

Delmer Lee Allen was born August 20, 1937 in the community of Center Point, Oklahoma.  He was the second child and only son of the late Floyd and Robbie Allen.  At the age of thirteen, Delmer felt the Lord calling him into the ministry.  One of the major influences in his life was the late Avery Willis.  Brother Willis was the pastor of Center Point Baptist Church while Delmer was in high school and their friendship remained over the years.  After graduating from Wilburton High School in 1954, Delmer attended Eastern Oklahoma State College.  He completed his Associate of Arts degree in 1956, and headed to Oklahoma Baptist University for one year.

While attending Northeastern State University he met his future wife Ramona.  They were married in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, on August 9, 1959.  Nine days before graduating in 1960, they welcomed daughter Charity into their family.  One month later they headed across the desert, without air conditioning, to the state of California where Delmer wanted to continue his studies at Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary.  During the time in California son Timothy was added to the family.  Delmer completed the Master of Religious Education in 1963 and the Master of Divinity in 1969.  After pastoring in California and Hawaii, Delmer and family returned to Oklahoma.  While living in Tulsa he completed the Clinical Pastoral Education program at Hillcrest Medical Center.  He felt this training would help him better minister to families that were dealing with a crisis.  He followed that with Campus Minister at OSU-Tech in Okmulgee.

In 1974, after serving four years in the Army Reserves, he was called to active duty as a chaplain and served at Fort Sill, Oklahoma for three years.  He returned to the Army Reserves in 1977, served in Desert Storm, and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1992.

Delmer continued his education and received his Doctor of Education degree from Oklahoma State University in 1992.

In 1994 a lifelong dream was realized when he and Ramona were appointed as foreign missionaries to Dubai, United Arab Emirates.  He served as the Arab Gulf Director and began the International Institute of Biblical Studies.  While serving in the Arab Gulf, Delmer and Ramona started the Emirates Baptist Church International that still exists today.  After returning to the states in 2000, he and Ramona served for five months in Bangalore, India.  Delmer trained ministers in the Clinical Pastoral Education Program at the Bangalore Baptist Hospital.

In August of 2015, after 56 years of marriage, his beloved Ramona went to heaven.  In February of 2019, Delmer reconnected with a former love.  He and Norma, the sister of hiss mentor and friend Avery Willis, had dated when going to Oklahoma Baptist University.  On June 1st of 2019, in Alpharetta, Georgia, they were joined in marriage.  While their time together was short, it was filled with dreams, plans, prayers and love.

Delmer passed from this world into the arms of his precious Savior in August 10, 2019.  Delmer served his God, his country and left and amazing and rich legacy for his family.

Delmer is survived by his wife, Norma S. Allen; daughter, Charity Buxton and husband, Michael of Edmond, OK; son, Timothy Allen and wife, Vickie of McAlester, OK; granddaughter, Victoria Allen; sister, Bobbie Muse and husband, Vernon of Sand Springs, OK; sister, Jenita Sutmiller of Wilburton, OK; many nieces and nephews; the children of Norma Allen – David Whitten, John Whitten, Sarah Hersey and James Whitten.
